Heavy Equipment Mechanic
Responsibilities:
Diagnoses mechanical problems.
Performs repairs and maintenance on electric, diesel, and gasoline vehicles including compactors, excavators, and other vehicles to maximize safe and productive operations. Typical repairs include, but are not limited to: routine maintenance and repair of engines, transmissions, chassis, driveline and body components, hydraulic systems, brake systems, electrical systems, suspension systems, wheels, tires and undercarriages.
Performs preventive maintenance and equipment upgrades.
Reads and interprets equipment condition reports and/or repair orders, communicates with supervisor and/or operator for clarification of problems and discusses preventive techniques with operators to minimize future repairs.
Completes paperwork associated with repairing equipment, documenting parts usage, and accounting for applied times (i.e. work order times versus time card times).
Interprets oil samples, schedules and repairs equipment components.
Follows all safety policies and procedures.
Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Field welding repairs and fabrication on heavy equipment components.
Standard Requirements
4 years minimum of related heavy equipment maintenance
Valid driver’s license
Must possess own hand tools
Mental and Physical Requirements
Must be able to continually bend, squat, kneel, lift, twist, climb, reach, stand, and walk. Must be able to use hands for repetitive pushing, pulling, and single grasp motion, and to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 60 pounds, and to move objects in excess of 100 pounds, and to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. Must have the ability to work alone or with minimal supervision, and to deal with others in a diplomatic and positive manner.
Preferences (not requirements)
Mechanical or trade school certificate
Certificate in electronic diagnostics
Welding and/or fabrication skills
CDL license
